🌿 Benefits of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy helps restore proper function and balance to the muscles of the face, tongue, lips, and jaw. By retraining these muscles and improving breathing, swallowing, and resting posture, OMT supports overall wellness—naturally.
😴 Improved Sleep Quality: Reduce snoring and sleep interruptions. May complement treatment for sleep apnea, working alongside CPAP or appliance therapy to improve outcomes.
👅Improved oral rest posture – Trains the tongue to rest on the palate and lips to close, supporting proper facial development and jaw alignment.
😁 Straighter, Healthier Smiles: Support orthodontic stability and reduce risk of relapse.
Improved breathing patterns – Encourages nasal breathing, which supports better oxygen intake, reduces snoring, and promotes restful sleep.
Better swallowing mechanics – Re-educates the tongue and orofacial muscles for more efficient and coordinated swallowing.
💪 Reduced teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism) – Reducing TMJ strain. Restoring muscle balance can reduce strain and tension in the jaw and face.
🗣 Enhanced speech and articulation – Helps correct tongue placement and movement patterns that can interfere with clear speech.
🌱 Long-Term Wellness: Encourages mindful habits – Builds awareness of breathing, posture, and function that support lifelong wellness.
Correct Oral Habits with Gentle, Personalized Myofunctional Therapy
At MyoMotion Solutions my mission is simple. I help children and adults improve their breathing, sleep, and oral function through customized exercises that retrain the muscles of the mouth, tongue, and face. Because when these muscles work in harmony, your whole body benefits.
Who Is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy For?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is safe and effective for children through adults. With children, we strive to correct oral habits early and support healthy growth and development. When providing therapy to teens, we support cranial facial development and orthodontic treatment while reducing the risk of relapse. Adults can benefit in endless ways with this treatment, from improving their sleep and quality of sleep, providing airway and breathing support, TMJ health (reducing tension and pain in neck/shoulders/face), and overall wellness.
Top Reasons to Schedule a Myofunctional Therapy Evaluation ?
Mouth Breathing including open lip posture or inability to close lips (Daytime or Nighttime)
Nasal breathing supports proper oxygen flow, better sleep, healthier facial development, and improved overall wellness. While mouth breathing can contribute to fatigue, poor sleep quality, and cranial facial impairment.
Tongue Ties
Tongue Ties are not only diagnosed in babies and children. Lots of adults have had impairment their entire life and symptoms can eventually become unmanageable. Some symptoms of tongue ties are mouth breathing, headaches, neck/shoulder tension, speech issues, eating, sleep, digestive issues, and more.
Tongue Thrusting including incorrect tongue rest posture and function
A tongue thrust is when the tongue pushes forward against or between the teeth during swallowing, speaking, or even at rest, and over time this constant pressure can lead to bite problems such as open bites, flared front teeth, orthodontic relapse, or misaligned teeth.
Clenching/Grinding Teeth (daytime or nighttime)
Clenching and grinding place excessive stress on the jaw muscles and joints, often leading to TMJ pain, headaches, and long-term dysfunction in how the jaw moves and rests. These can also be parafunctional habits (done at night) and they can be difficult to break. When you train the muscles to work properly it can re-educate the muscles to work the way they were intended, and break the pattern.
Pain/Tension/TMJ discomfort (seen as headaches, neck, shoulders, jaw, and facial pain)
Overuse of the facial and jaw muscles can strain the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), leading to pain, tension, limited movement, and disruptions in normal bite and jaw function.
Poor sleep/sleep-disordered breathing (including snoring/loud breathing, moving a lot during sleep, exhaustion, mouth open, bed wetting, and sleep apnea support)
Sleep-disordered breathing is linked to many chronic illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer, and an overall increased risk of death
Relapses after orthodontic treatment
Completing orthodontic treatment without fixing an underlying impairment can contribute to relapse after completion. The therapy can help protect your investment.
Improper swallowing patterns
Swallowing difficulties are addressed by retraining the tongue and facial muscles to rest and move properly, creating a healthier, more efficient swallow pattern.
Behavior concerns (hyperactivity/ADHD)
When you don’t get deep, restorative sleep, it may worsen behavioral challenges such as inattention or ADHD-like symptoms and can even be linked to night-time bed-wetting, as the body struggles to regulate night-time signals and arousal responses.
Digestive issues
Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) can affect how we breathe, chew, and swallow. When these functions aren’t working properly, food may not be broken down efficiently, air can be swallowed during meals, and the digestive system has to work harder—often leading to bloating, discomfort, reflux, or slowed digestion.
About Me
What began as a search for answers to my own pain and fatigue has become a calling to help others heal. My passion lies in guiding both children and adults toward better breathing, healthier sleep, and lasting balance through orofacial myofuntional therapy.
Every breath, swallow, and movement of the tongue plays a powerful role in how our body functions. When those patterns are out of balance, it can affect everything- from sleep to posture to facial growth. My work is helping you restore that natural harmony.
